THE TECTONIC DIVISION OF THE MESOZOIC-PALEOZOIC IN THE SOUTH YELLOW SEA BASIN

    • The South Yellow Sea Basin, as part of the Lower Yangzi Plate submerged under the sea, is one of areas in China with the most complete Mesozoic-Paleozoic deposits. After a complex history of polycyclic evolution, alteration and superimposition, this basin is characterized by a dual-basement structure and a complicated deep structural system. The marine Mesozoic-Paleozoic has experienced the strong transformations of the Indosinian orogeny, Yanshan movement and Himalayan movement. In the previous studies, the lack of deep seismic data made us impossible to delineate the tectonic framework of the marine Mesozoic-Paleozoic in details. In this article, the newly acquired deep seismic data are used to divide the tectonic units of the South Yellow Sea based on the prototypes of sedimentary Basin.
