Abstract
Due to its water geochemical recycling capacity, wetland is regarded as a specific ecological environment for sewage purification. More and more countries and regions have constructed manmade wetlands to satisfy the public with water pollution treatment. This article introduces the mechanisms to remove contaminants from free surface flow, vertical subsurface flow, and free floating macrophyte, with emphasis on the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus by manmade wetland systems.
