GRAIN SIZE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE 100-METER GEOLOGICAL DRILLING HOLE AT THE ESTUARY OF YELLOW RIVER

    • The core from Hole KD4, which is locatd off the modern Yellow River mouth, is subdivided into 14 strata according to sequence stratigraphy and chronostratigraphy. The bottom boundary of the core is the transgressive layer which is also called the Cangzhou transgression on the west coast of Bohai Bay. The stratigraphy is characterized by the intercalation of shallow marine and terrestrial deposits. Grain size parameters were analyzed for 1 808 samples. The frequency and probability cumulative curves of the sediemnts reveal that the sediments of the core KD4 are mainly derived from the Yellow River and deposited mainly in the form of turbidity currents and overflows.
