Abstract
The factors influencing coastal scouring and deposition pattern at the Yellow River Estuary was studied based on existing data. The muddy coast around the Yellow River Estuary was the result of river-sea interaction. The main factors which influenced the coastal evolution of the Yellow River Estuary include the flow and sediment charges from the river and its interaction with marine dynamics. In addition, factors, such as sea level fluctuation, geo-morphological and geological features, vegetation and human activities, are also important to the coastal evolution of the Yellow River Estuary. The study of the influencing factors of scouring and deposition is critical to the management of the Estuary.Through rationale regulating the incoming flow and sediment of the River, there is possibility to control the scouring and depositional pattern along the coast at the River Estuary.Marine processes, which could bring sediment away from the River mouth to be re-depositde in the offshore area, should also be fully considered.
