CHARACTERISTICS OF VESSEL NOISE IN SEISMIC SURVEY AND THE METHOD FOR NOISE SUPPRESSION: A CASE FROM THE SOUTH YELLOW SEA

    • The quality of seismic raw data is often influenced by the vessel noise, when fishing and merchant vessels passing by. Previous studies show that the vessel noise exists mainly in the shot-gather with linear, hyperbolic and approximate hyperbolic appearance, and is characterized by relatively simple propagation path, high amplitude and wide frequency band. In order to eliminate the noise, we processed the seismic data acquired from the South Yellow Sea with the flattened and eliminated events method and the f-x prediction filters method in the common offset gather. Results show that both the two methods could remove the vessel noise effectively and between the two the second is easier to apply.
