Abstract
Data from high resolution shallow seismic profiles indicate that there occur various buried paleo-river channels,paleo-deltas,paleo-lakes and paleo-tidal sand ridges in a wide area of the South Yellow Sea.They are possible to be recognized with acoustic reflection methods. In this paper,we described the types of the buried geomorphological features, their morphology, internal structure and contact with surrounding geological bodies;defined their spatial distribution and discussed their origin. All the buried geological features mentioned above are potential geohazards. They have great direct or indirect influence on marine engineering.
