Abstract
The Laizhou Shoal is famous for its coastal topography in North Shandong Peninsula. Located at the edge of Diaolongzui and stretching from NW to SE, it is divided by numerous waterways and different size of shoals, which makes up its complex topographical features. Current study on the evolution history of the Laizhou Shoal seldom focuses on its formation and sediment features, except few descriptions. By field investigation and indoor sample analysis, the sediment distribution, mineral composition, topographical feature, sand reservoir and evolution history of the Laizhou Shoal are studied. It is concluded that the wave effect is the main driving force for the formation of the Laizhou Shoal and controls its topographical distribution and evolution pattern. In combination of the current status of the Laizhou Shoal, some problems and suggestions are pointed out based on this study.
