DISTRIBUTION PATTERN OF SURFACE SEDIMENTS IN DENGZHOU SHOAL AREA

Based on the samples taken in September and October 2010,we studied the types of sediments and their distribution pattern in the Dengzhou Shoal area.Grain size parameters are presented and the major factors controlling the sediments distribution discussed in this paper.The sediments of the area can be divided into 11 types,namely gravel,gravel sand,coarse sand,medium coarse sand,medium sand,fine sand,sandy silt,silty sand,silt,clayey silt,and silty clay,with medium to coarse sand as the major.Gravel sands are widely distributed in the east of the Dengzhou channel,but the west of the channel is dominated by clayey silt.Sediments vary from fine to coarse and then back to fine again from south to north,and from east to west,sediments vary from coarse to fine in the study area.This distribution pattern owes its origin to the dynamics of the environment.
