ENGINEERING GEOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT FOR THE ACCESS TO THE ARTIFICIAL ISLAND IN THE WEST COAST OF LAIZHOU BAY

    • The research area is located in the 5th block of Qingdong area around the sea access to the 1# artificial island in the west coast of the Laizhou Bay. After the study of engineering geological conditions of the area based on precious survey and engineering geological data, there are some key engineering geological problems which must be carefully taken into account. First, the vertical sequence of interbeded clay and silt bears the risk of sand and silt liquefaction if an earthquake of intensity of 8 or 9 shocks this region. Second, the large topographic differences will be too risky to ground stability. Recommendations and suggestions are made for consideration of the designers.
