Evolution Characteristics and Oil and Gas Resource Potential of Sedimentary Basins in Eastern China Sea Area

    • The shortage of oil and natural gas resources has seriously restricted the development of China's national economy. Exploring new areas of oil and gas exploration and searching for reserve oil and gas bases have become a national strategy. Based on the data obtained from marine regional surveys and combined with previous research results, we studied the structural characteristics and evolution process of these basins, analyzed the factors and conditions of hydrocarbon accumulation in each basin, and pointed out the favorable exploration areas in eastern China sea. According to the location and genesis of basins, sedimentary basins in the eastern China Sea can be divided into two types. Controlled by the interaction between blocks, basins have undergone different tectonic evolution history developed different structural characteristics and stratigraphic, which lead to distinct differences in hydrocarbon accumulation factors and modes. Oil and gas resources in Bohai Bay Basin mainly accumulated in the Middle -Upper Paleogene, the Lower Neogene as well as the buried hill of Pre-Cenozoic. The North Yellow Sea Basin should be focused on the Mesozoic of the Eastern Depression. The South Yellow Sea Basin should be focused on the Mesozoic-Palaeozoic marine oil and gas exploration. The East China Sea shelf basin should take both Mesozoic and Cenozoic oil and gas exploration into account. The results can be used as a reference for oil and gas exploration in sedimentary basins in eastern China.
