Temporal and spatial evolution characteristics of coastline in Shenzhen since 1988

    • Under the principle of protecting the marine ecological environment, the coordinated development of land and sea is one of the important contents of ecological civilization construction, and the coastline has become an important target for studying the relationship between land and sea. The coastline in Shenzhen was taken as the research object. By processing and extraction of Landsat TM/OLI remote sensing images, shorelines of Shenzhen in 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013, 2018, and 2021 were obtained. Based on the results of shoreline extraction, the Shenzhen shorelines in the past 8 periods were quantified, and the evolution pattern of Shenzhen shorelines were analyzed in terms of length, form, type, and development intensity. Results show that since 1988, the length and form of the coastline have been constantly lengthening and winding. The types and development intensity of the natural shoreline has been decreasing, while the artificial shoreline has been increasing year by year. The urban construction shoreline is gradually becoming the main body of Shenzhen shoreline. The spatial differentiation between the eastern and western coastlines is obvious due to the difference of geographical environmental factors. The artificial index and development intensity of the western coastline are significantly higher than eastern one.
