APPRAISAL OF EXPLOITABLE BITUMEN VOLUME IN PLACE DEVELOPED BY SAGD: A CASE STUDY ON OIL SAND DEPOSIT A IN CANADA

Abstract
Abundant oil sand resource has been found in the Albert Basin of Canada and the Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage(SAGD) is a matured and widely adopted technology for oilsand development. The logical and rational assessment of exploitable bitumen volume in place is an essential foundation for designing the oil sand development plan by SAGD. The methods of apprising the exploitable bitumen volume in place was identified by integrating the geological factors that affect oilsand production, structure features, reservoir distribution and well pair deployment requirements, therefore, different levels of bitumen volume appraisal can be achieved, i.e. original bitumen volume in place, SAGD'able bitumen volume in place and exploitable bitumen volume in place.
