Abstract:
Paleocontinent reconstruction is one of the hot issues in earth sciences of the world. A brief review is made in this article on the progress of paleocontinent reconstruction research in China, with emphasis on new ideas, new results and new methods developed in the past 20 years. Based on the palaeomagnetic and geological data from the north China Block, Yangtze Block, and Tarim Block, the movement of the three blocks since the late Paleozoic was carefully reconstructed. Special attention is given to the collision and/or merging of the main blocks, such as the merging between the North China and the Yangtze blocks, the merging between the North China and Tarim blocks, as well as the merging between the Tarim and Kazakhstan blocks.
