DEVELOPMENT OF BALANCED CROSS-SECTION TECHNIQUE AND ITS APPLICATION TO QINTONG DEPRESSION OF NORTH-JIANGSU BASIN

  • Balanced cross-section technique is widely applied to structural interpretation and restoration. A review of the development of the technique is made in this paper. It shows that the technique for 2-D balanced cross-section is now nearly mature and the 3-D balanced cross-section restoration remains to be studied. In this paper, we selected two key seismic profiles from the Qingtong Depression of the North Jiangsu Basin for 2-D balanced cross-section restoration. After varying velocity and time-depth conversion and revision for several times, the present geological section comes into being. The results suggest that appropriate application of balanced cross-section technique can improve the seismic interpretation for structural evolution and help in resource exploration.
