Abstract: This paper has reviewed the demands for coastal basic geological investigations and geological information raised from social and economic development, addressed the current challenges and problems on coastal geological investigations. It suggests that six key issues need to be taken into account in future work. Principals and main missions for the deplopment of coastal geological investigation in the next five years are discussed as well.
