Abstract:
The area A of Jieyang Depression, as a Mesozoic and Cenozoic fault depression basin, is located in the transitional zone between the southeast Pear River Estuary Basin and the Southwest Taiwan Basin. Due to lack of basic data (only 2D seismic data is available), the progress of hydrocarbon exploration is lagged behind other regions. Based on newly acquired 3D seismic data, under the guidance of sequence stratigraphy, by using the new technology for seismic data interpretation and pressure prediction technology for hydrocarbon source rock evaluation, we made a comprehensive summarization in this paper on stratigraphy, tectonic framework, source rocks and exploration targets for further research. The results suggest that the depression has favorable conditions for hydrocarbon generation and accumulation. Further exploration is recommended and required.
