Abstract:
About 3500km of geophysical data were collected from the coastal area of Xiapu, Fujian province during the period from 2014 to 2017, which include measured shallow seismic stratigraphic profiles, single-channel seismic sections and side-scan sonars as well as remote sensing images and coastal monitoring profiles. Incorporated with the careful study of marine sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy and structural geology, various marine geo-hazards are discovered, such as buried paleo- channels, shallow gas accumulations, shallow buried irregular bedrocks, muddy areas, tidal sand ridges, and abandoned coasts. We described and discussed the characteristics and genetic mechanism of these potential hazards in this paper in order to lay a foundation for further exploring geo-hazard factors in the study area so as to provide a scientific basis for marine resource development and marine engineering construction in the coastal areas along northern Fujian.
